Program FAQs

What is Crew SC Player Development and why does Crew SC have youth soccer?
Major League Soccer charted new territory among major professional sports leagues in the U.S. in 2006 by launching a league-mandated youth development initiative that enables - and incentivizes - teams to acquire, outside of the annual MLS Super Draft, top young players that they’ve developed from their respective home territories, which is the State of Ohio in the Crew SC's case. These youth teams and systems throughout the country provide talented young players with professional aspirations a unique opportunity to pursue their dreams, while staying close to home and continuing their education.

From the program’s inception in 2006, the Crew SC's Player Development now serves nearly 3,000 boys and girls players at all levels throughout Ohio – including nearly 1,500 in Central Ohio.

How will U.S. Soccer changes to birth year registration and small sided game standards affect Crew SC ?
For more information on how Crew SC will address these issues, please visit our page dedicated to this issue by clicking here.

When registering, I have to select a program East or West. What are the differences?
Crew SC East and Crew SC West refer to the geographic areas where programming will be offered. Programming, including training, will primarily take place in those areas. For a more detailed overview visit our “About Us” page by clicking here.

Can I try out for more than one program?
No. You should register to try out for one. If you wish to be considered for more than one, please make a note in the comments area during your registration. It is possible that a coach may recommend a player to consider accepting a spot in another area if we feel this would be a better fit for the player. The coach would then contact the family to discuss the opportunity thoroughly.

Can I tryout for an older age group?
Our goal is to place players at the most developmentally appropriate level. With multiple teams and levels in all age groups, one of the benefits of our program is the ability to find players a developmentally appropriate spot in their true age group. Players wishing to be considered for an older age group should mark this request when registering for tryouts, along with any reasoning for this request. However, all players should attend the tryout in their true age group.

What should my player bring to tryouts?
Please bring your registration receipt, a soccer ball, a water bottle, shin guards and soccer cleats.

Can my player play more than one sport and still play for Crew SC Player Development?
Yes. We encourage all players to enjoy other sports; however, please consider as players compete at higher levels, it becomes increasingly difficult for them to play multiple sports.

Do I need to attend both days of tryouts?
No, but we strongly encourage you to attend as many nights as possible to properly evaluate all players.

Do you offer scholarships?
Yes. A limited number of partial scholarships are available. Click here for more information.

How long do I have to decide if I want to accept a roster spot?
Most families typically let us know within 24 hours, others take 1-2 days to discuss with their family and let us know.
